Lately, P2K only sends the first 2-3 sentences of articles from TheEconomist.com
instead of the full text. As a subscriber, this used to work fine until a couple of months ago. Anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes? It’s pretty frustrating.
Hi and welcome @jjonathan,
I assume you mean economist.com
because theeconomist.com
is not available or responding?
I’ll try to look into this tomorrow. It would be helpful, if you could provide one or two direct links to articles that are failing. If there are free articles, it would help to have a link to these too.
What is your workflow? Are you using the browser plugin (desktop) or the bookmarklet (mobile/desktop) or the mobile app or just pasting the URL into the form at pushtokindle.com/get-started?
Yes, that’s correct. I meant to write economist.com. Sorry about the confusion, and thanks a lot for taking a look at this issue.

@jjonathan: My edit and your answer where nearly simultaneously, so you may have missed the following points:

Hi, here’s my workflow:
On mobile, I usually open an article in either Chrome or the Economist app on Android. From there, I use the share icon to send it to the Push to Kindle app. This process works fine for most news sites, but it stopped working with The Economist about six months ago. It used to work perfectly before that.
On desktop, I open the article in Chrome on my Mac and use the Push to Kindle browser plugin to send it. Unfortunately, I’ve run into the same issue here—it just doesn’t work with The Economist anymore.
I’m a paying subscriber and stay logged in the whole time, so that shouldn’t be the problem. Here’s an example link, though I’m not sure if you’ll be able to see the full article without logging in yourself.
Article:
Hi @jjonathan,
then I need to explain a few things.
- some websites have a paywall-light, which one could pass with a few tricks. It seems that Economist changed its content software and make their paywall more ‘secure’. That might be the reason, you don’t get content since 6 months, when sending from mobile.
- The PushToKindle (P2K) mobile app and it’s sharing-function only sends the URL of an article to the P2K server. But the P2K server does not have access to your economist credentials. So P2K can’t get past the paywall.
- So you should use instead the P2K bookmarklet for your mobile browser. This will send the full content, that was already completely loaded by your browser while logged-in to TheEconomist.
- The P2K browser extension/plugin for desktop browsers do the same.
Besides the paywall thing, economist changed their html scheme as well. I fixed the config file for this domain, so this should work again now. But as I am not a subscriber, I cannot test this with full articles.
So please report, if anything is still a problem. In this case please look for an article (use desktop browser) that is a bit longer and contains more than one image. Press Ctrl+U and save the html code into a file and send this file to me via PM.

Hi Holger,
Thanks for the detailed explanation and the update! I tried using the P2K bookmarklet in my mobile browser as you suggested, and it worked flawlessly.
Your support and quick response are much appreciated.
Thanks again for your help—great work!
