I’m trying to send A Baseball Life | By Dusty Baker A Baseball Life by Dusty Baker | The Players’ Tribune to my Kindle and PTK seems to pick up the article starting with “One thing…”, which is close to the end of the article. More comes through when I disable “use browser-retrieved content”, but that seems to be listing the paragraphs out of order now (search for “You want to know how much I’ve seen in this game?” to see). This is a long read and perfect for sending to my Kindle. I’d appreciate if you could take a look. Thank you.
Hi @sanjay
That might be a hard one. I had a short look on it and it looks like, that they are heavily using JavaScript to render the original page.
Are you using the P2K browser plugin or do you just sending the URL to P2K? Plugin is recommended in most cases.
As I am at night shift at the moment I can’t discover the parameters for the site config for the plugin-version yet. I will look during the weekend on this.
For URL-version the website is sending a <noscript>
part, with nearly all the content: normal text and images BUT NOT the quotes. And the images are in a different order and position between text
@fivefilters if you want to look yourself meanwhile, the selector I found for the noscript version is for now:
body: (//img[contains(@src, '/tpt-white-trans.png')])[last()]/following-sibling::*
which is really ugly, but the html within the noscript is really ugly too.
Oh wow, thanks for the deep look. I’m using the Push to Kindle 2.7 browser plugin on Firefox on Windows 11. Hope that helps.
This was really a hard one. While the noscript version was easy but incomplete (no quotes/cites), the plugin-catching version delivers js-generated html code with no unique selectable classes or id.
So if you are using P2K’s browser plugin, you get all the content now, but a bit of additional fringe before and after the article. And the quotes/cites do no have a special highlighting, so it is hard to recognize. And one of the images in this article is doubled. And the video doesn’t play.
@sanjay, is there a page on theplayerstribune which indexes more pages on the projects-subdomain? So I can check, if they are working too.
The config is live, so you can check now.
@HolgerAusB , this looks much better now, thank you. Sorry for the delay, I was away for the weekend and catching up on some other articles I had sent to my Kindle.
Before raising this, I did try some other articles on the site and they seemed to push okay. This was a new one and was giving me some problems. Thank you for the quick response and fix. I hope you had a nice weekend.
