I see an option in FTR to include excerpts. These excerpts are formed by reading a few characters from the description of the article.
Can the excerpts be formed from the original summary of the feed (full or partial)?

Not at the moment, but we’ll consider that feature in a future update.
At the moment, the only time the original item description (summary/excerpt) is preserved is if Full-Text RSS fails to extract content to replace it - in such cases we add a message saying the content could not be extracted, followed by the original description.
